I finished this book in one go; just decided not to sleep… oops… I found this book to be very entertaining and I really enjoyed getting the introspective viewpoint and narration from Alex Kingston herself. I really loved that we got a lot more, in my opinion, valuable knowledge about River and how her brain works versus the previous Melody Malone book and The Legend of River Song short story collective work, written by various authors, that gave quite a lot of focus on River’s thoughts regarding her physical appearance and how that works into what is going on rather than how River’s highly-intellectual, mental capacities play into things as Alex has done while still, reasonably, alluding to River’s unequivocal confidence in her looks as well as her penchant for being quite naughty at times.I took notes while I read, mostly for myself, and there's really too much that I can write here and not give... Spoilers....I will say that I felt Alex captured River's witty voice very well, and I did have a few really good laughs throughout my read-through; Alex managed to paint some very delightful imagery in my head at times.I really felt like I learned a lot of things about River Song that I had been curious to know over the last decade as well as some details on how River thinks about The Doctor.There was one or two things here and there I would maybe ask about in regards to continuity between the show and the book, but, for the sake of spoilers, I will not mention them; they were very small, minor things.I will definitely re-read this book! It has been a long while since I was this excited in anticipation at the prospect of a new book, and I greatly appreciate Alex for providing me with that. I would deeply enjoy if she ever wanted to embark on a project of this nature again in the future.
